Brief scope of works
SOCOTEC Building Control Ltd continue to provide building reg compliance support to B+K helping to deliver yet another EFA backed school. The particular challenge for this project was that it was two schools in one building with a shared kitchen and out of hours areas such as a “public café” operated by the SEN students. The design for Fire Safety required that Sprinklers could be omitted by following the guidance in BS9999 and a Fire Engineer; the use of “pass doors” etc. for which we undertook numerous negotiations with the fire service.
Also towards handover it was discovered that he lifts could not be commissioned in time, we were able to issue a letter of comfort as the schools safety and evacuation was acceptable and the school was able to manage the new pupil intake without a lift, for a limited period. We applied for an extension of time with the Local Authority which was accepted therefore the school was able to open on time.
